Rooftop Pilates

Westbeth Artist Residence (55 Bethune St, 11th Floor, B roof)

Come enjoy energizing movement sessions on Westbeth’s B roof. Classes in this glorious setting aim to improve posture, strength and mobility while integrating the body, mind and spirit through bizarre and beautiful imagery!

No pilates experience necessary.

Class will involve moving between lying down (on front, side, and back), sitting, kneeling, and standing.

Bring: An exercise/yoga mat, towel (for extra spine protection because the floor is unforgiving!), eye protection (like sunglasses or a hat so you can comfortably gaze up at the sky), and water.

Classes are just $10 thanks to the generous support of the Westbeth Artist Residence Council (WARC), payable by cash, Venmo, or Zelle.

This class starts with pilates-based conditioning. A somatic approach gives dancers the time and space to connect into their bodies throughout a series of balancing, strength-building exercises that move from lying down to sitting and kneeling to standing. Principals from this portion of the class are then applied to a ballet barre. Combinations are simple and many are repeated from week to week so that dancers can elevate their heart rate, moving steadily from one exercises to the next with minimal, efficiently-delivered feedback. Class finishes with some waltzing and turning and a bit of jumping.
